When: Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 Where: Santa Fe Community College, 6401 Richards Ave., Jemez Rooms by the bookstore. For more information call 505.204.1757. This year 13 million American children will be bullied. It's time to take a stand! The Northeast New Mexico Association for the Education of Young Children screens the feature film BULLY, a documentary about peer-to-peer bullying in schools across America and the grass-roots organizing community leaders, students, and families have undertaken to stop bullying. This is a professional development opportunity. Get three hours of contact training hours. After the film there will be a panel discussion with representatives from the Santa Fe Public Schools bully-prevention program, The Santa Fe School for the Arts, middle school students, and mental health professionals. BULLY documents the responses of teachers and administrators to aggressive behaviors that defy “kids will be kids” clichés, and it captures a growing movement among parents and youths to change how bullying is handled in schools. The film coincides with a campaign called The Bully Project (www.thebullyproject.com) that provides solutions that lead to systemic change. The screening is ne-NMAEYC's second annual fundraiser for scholarships for early childhood teachers in Northeast New Mexico. |
