NM Voices for Children

Our Mission:

We work to eliminate child poverty and improve the health and well–being of New Mexico's children, families and communities.

Our Work:

We work to create systems-level sustainable change. To accomplish our mission, we work with state and national officials to shape and implement public policies that are supportive of children and working families.

Because we believe in evidence–based advocacy, we conduct rigorous research and data analysis. NM Voices is the only nonprofit child advocacy organization in the state examining tax and budget policy issues specific to the needs of the poor. We also train young people and their communities to advocate on the issues that affect them.

In 2007, we released our vision for the next 20 years: the New Mexico Children's Charter.

Our Strategies:

  • We conduct research and data analysis through our Fiscal Policy Project.
  • We use our research and publications to educate and inform policymakers, the news media, and the public. Communities and other organizations use our research to advocate for their specific needs.
  • We identify and advocate for innovative public policies to improve the lives of New Mexico's children.
  • We work both at grassroots and governmental levels, often in coalition with other advocacy organizations, business leaders, community groups, and the faith community.
